Sussex Air Quality Partnership hosts seminars and gives presentations releated to air quality issues in Sussex. Recent meeting presentations and links to other recent air quality seminars are found on this page.

Winter 2007/08

Sussex-air held the following seminar on "Climate Change and Air Quality" at the Old Ship Hotel, Brighton on the 29th February 2008.

Climate Change will affect global and local weather patterns and change regional climates. The effect on the South East of England is projected to result in warmer, dryer summers, thus having a serious impact on air quality.

Sussex-air 2007 seminar - Presentations

Autumn 2005

SAQSG and Brighton and Hove City Council hosted the following seminar on the: "Integration of Air Quality Action Plans into LTP2" on 6th December 2005 - Brighton

As “Air Quality Action Plans” (AQAP) are to be integrated into to the next phase of Local Transport Plans (LTP2) across the country, both Transport Planners and Air Quality specialists need to maximise the air quality elements of LTP2 to ensure benefits of the plans are realised. The seminar was aimed at transport planners and air quality specialists with presentations to reflect the importance of working together and closely on LTP2.

The presentations are listed below :

• Air Quality Action Planning relative to transport Dr Richard Maggs (Stanger/Bureau Veritas)

• Local Authority prospective on implementing AQAP. Tim Bartlett (Lewes DC)

• Integration of AQAPs into LTP2. Dr Richard Maggs (Stanger/Bureau Veritas)

• Travel Behaviour Change as a Strategy to Tackle Poor Air Quality in West London. David Allen (TRL)

• Air Quality Measures and Indicators in LTP2. Nigel Jenkins (SAQSG)

• LTP2 and integrating AQMA's in East Sussex and Brighton . James Harris & Alwyn Knight (ESCC & B&HCC)

• LTP2 - making integration work . Rob Piling (NSCA)

Autumn 2004


SAQSG hosted a meeting in November and presentations on Municiple Waste Incineration (MWI) were given by:

  • Nigel Jenkins (SAQSG) on" Introduction to MWI in the South-East."
  • Prem Mahi (Mott MacDonald Consultants) on "The role of energy recovery in the management of municipal waste"
  • Phil Russell (Head of Waste Management – WSCC) on "Thermal Treatment Systems".
